Go Raw Cafe - Las Vegas, NV
I recently had the chance to visit GoRaw cafe where It states on the menu: "Your place for fine, organic, live, vegan cuisine." Now, this doesn't mean it's all live, raw or living foods. Although they do have a large diverse raw menu, they also have some foods which have been cooked.
The first day we went, I got the "Gimme the Beet "Cheese" Burger w/ Fries. As I'm typing this I'm realizing I didn't receive any "fries" or anything that looked similar to fries. It's a veggie burger made with beets, carrots, sunflower seeds and parsley served on living bread w/ hand prepared catsup, mustard, mayo, onion, tomato, lettuce, sprouts, avocado and almond cheese.
As I'm not much into the "gourmet" foods now-a-days, I found the burger to be too heavy and dry so only ate the veggies. The "bread" was really flaxseed crackers.
Personally, this is not something I would recommend.
Bo just had a small Tropical Smoothie which contained Orange, Banana, Pineapple, Mango and Date. When we went back the next morning, we both got "large" ones. Interesting enough, we couldn't tell the large from the one he'd had the day before.
Other items on the menu are: Pate platter w/ veggie chips & flax crackers; Bruchetta Toast, Chips and Salsa; House Salad ; Sushi; Neat loaf and fries (remember to get the fries); pizza; vegi-cotti; chef's sampler (which I'd gotten on a previous visit and enjoyed muchly); Mediterranean Wrap. They also have sides and desserts such as apple cobbler, strawberry pie, coconut cream pie and banana Ice dream.
A fresh salad bar is availabe for $6.99 also. Prices are fairly reasonable for Las Vegas, ranging from $5 to $11 for the appetizers; $9-$12.50 for entrees; desserts are $5 and smoothies, $5.50 and $6.30.
Go Raw also carries quite a selection of books and some bodycare products. As we don’t have a local distributor for Nama Shoyu, we purchased some there and also a large bottle of agave syrup. The cafe carries a small variety of packaged raw foods and bars.
They have two locations: 2381 E Windmill Lane at the Smith's Shooping Center in Las Vegas ~ (open 7 days) and on the westside at 2910 Lake East Drive also in Las Vegas. (closed Sunday)

Cilantro Live - restaurant in Chula Vista (San Diego area)
My husband and I had the opportunity to go to this "Organic & vegan exotic cuisine, 100% Raw Restaurant" twice recently. On the first venture, I had a combination plate which included one spring roll, two mini pizzas, two Raw-violis, 1 Buenos vida wrap, two nori rolls and the house salad for $12.50. It was a good selection and just perfect.
I chose this because I wanted to find out if I wanted a whole dish of the raw-violis or nori rolls. I didn't. What I had was exactly right for me. The nori rolls and raw-violis alone would have been too heavy. A little bit of each along with the salad was quite satisfying in all respects. For dessert I had the Coconut Lemon Dream Bar. It was quite good although a bit much after the meal.
My husband Bo had the Spicy Tomato Bisque, a plate of Spring Rolls and the Auyerveda Lemonade. We were warned that the Tomato Bisque was quite spicy. It wasn't. I, who doesn't (don't?) eat spicy was not impressed. He, who does, was even less than. I did like the flavor though. He said it wasn't "tomatoey" enough. The spring rolls were quite large and come 4 to a plate. They are wrapped in rice paper which I believe is cooked. Oh! I didn't check on the Japanese dipping sauce (which comes with the nori rolls) or the hoisin dipping sauce (with the spring rolls) to see if they came bottled (cooked) or not. Now that I'm writing this, I'm thinking they probably are.
The lemonade was quite good. Made with water, lemon juice, cayenne, agave and I think some ginger, he had two glasses. Being as I don't drink with my meals, I did have a few sips and found it very refreshing. Bo had a scoop of vanilla cashew ice cream for dessert. That was quite yummy. Oh! Their chocolate sauce is very chocolatey, creamy and smooth. (Another thing I didn't check to see if raw ~ or, made with carob or cacao) .
In the evening, we went back and both had the cheeseburger. I was quite disappointed. VERY dry. The "cheese" was a very flat thin piece of something. It says "cashew cheese" on the menu yet it was red. Neither of us finished this. The salad which comes with all entrees is quite good. Basically a mix of greens with a few sliced bell peppers. I liked the dressing not too oily or heavy. For dessert I had Mango Lime Parfait. Decent yet not astonishingly good. I really like Alissa's mango/banana pudding more. Bo had the Banana split. He had two scoops of vanilla and one scoop of strawberry. I liked the strawberry although we both like the vanilla more. It was topped with chocolate sauce and sprinkled with coconut. VERY yummy. THAT got finished.
AII-in-all, I, personally enjoyed this restaurant. The service ~ as far as getting the food to us was quick. A little slow in bringing the bill. The waitress who brought my sample plate explained what was on it without having to be asked. The plastic fruit on the table could be eliminated. Just collecting dust and we both found it less than aesthetic.
The biggest negative I found about Cilantro Live was the annoying high-pitched squeak of the freezer every time the door was opened. Other than that would I recommend this restaurant? Yes. Will we go back? Most likely. There are a LOT of other dishes on the menu I would like to try ~ specifically the Angel Hair Pasta, Sea Vegetable salad, Guacamole and Ceviche cocktail. I would definitely have the Sampler Plate, the lemonade and the Tomato Bisque again. The Cashew Ice Cream Sundae is on my list to try also.
We'll be headed down that way again in June and hopefully we'll get to eat there again.

citri*star juicer
I saw it and bought it...

Citri*Star CS 1000
We just came from a natural products trade show and
while there, came across the Citri*Star CS 1000 juicer.
So far, we’ve used it twice and are amazingly pleased
with it. Up until now we’ve been using a Braun Citromatic
which has been serving our purpose yet, this new
machine makes our daily juicing task much easier.
One can do continuous juicing, directly into a glass. (Not
provided). The best thing about it for me, besides easier
clean-up is the lil spout thingy can be pushed up so it
doesn’t drip while we pour a full glass into the blender.
We’ve both noticed that the juice doesn’t spray/splash as
it did with the other. It’s also a very quick juicer so it
takes less time to do the actual work.
This juicer regularly retails for $49.95. We are retailing it
for a short time for $39.95 plus shipping and tax (Ca.
residents only). That is quite a savings! To take
advantage of this offer, please order as soon as you can.
Check here soon as we are also getting in some manual
wheat grass/veggie juicers and will be offering them for
below retail also ~ AFTER we see how well one works.
In the meantime, here is my favorite green smoothie
recipe ~ for 2-4 people ~
8 organic oranges
2 organic bananas
4 small or 2 large dark green kale leaves
Juice the oranges; put it in the blender along with the
bananas and kale. Blend thoroughly. Serve and enjoy!
buy one here
or go to the citri*star page and find more info
Injoy ~

Living on Live Food
Alissa has also made a video which works well with the book. I had some issues with it ~ the main one being the two women she had as guest/testers. Their laughter and constant talk was, to me ~ annoying. Alissa has MUCH good information in it ~ some of which was drowned out in the laughter and talk ~ yet, it is worth the investment to see how very simply one can create this wonder-filled food. As one who teaches I know many are thinking eating raw is hard to do. In actuality, it is one of the easiest ways to eat and Alissa Cohen's book and video will show you how.
